Church World Service works with partners to eradicate hunger and poverty and to promote peace and justice around the world.

In the U.S., CWS helps communities respond to disasters, resettle refugees, promote fair national and international policies, and provide educational resources. Around the world, Church World Service supports sustainable grassroots development, disaster relief, and refugee assistance, and educates and advocates on hunger-related issues.

Examples of our work with CWS include: blankets and cards for Mother’s and Father’s Day, School Kits and Hygiene Kits, and our participation in the Crop Walk.

COLOMBIAN PARTNERSHIP

Why Colombia?

In September 2011, missionary Michael Joseph was our guest for a Pot Luck Supper and information session at First Congregational Church in Woodstock, about the people he serves and the work he does in Colombia, South America. Michael spoke eloquently about the people, their country, their government, and their many challenges. He was passionate when relating stories of how hard they work, their love of God, and their desires for peace.

Why now?

Recently, at the 144th Annual Meeting of the Connecticut Conference, a resolution was passed that accepted the invitation of the previous General Synod for conferences and churches across the denomination to become “Global Mission Conferences and Churches.”

What is Global Ministries?

Global Ministries is the body that administers for the Disciples of Christ and the United Church of Christ, helping churches to engage beyond our national boundaries in God’s transforming mission with international partners.

What will we give to a partnership?

We will create a relationship with the people and the missionary through prayer and a spiritual connection. Letters, emails and other communications will be shared.

What will we get?

It is the hope of the Board of Outreach that we will be able to create relationships and become better educated about these people and their lives, as we walk with our mission partner. We hope to gain a greater understanding of mission around the world as a result. Contact Michael Joseph.
