Summer Worship

July Worship 9am

During the month of July, worship shifts to 9 AM.

Our friends from the East Woodstock Congregational Church worship with us in our sanctuary at 543 Route 169 in Woodstock.

The worship is a joint celebration with East Woodstock providing the message for the day, the music ministry from First Church bringing the gift of song and accompaniment, and deacons from both congregations working together to plan, organize, and oversee worship.

August Worship 9am

During the month of August, worship continues at 9 AM.

We worship at the East Woodstock Congregational Church, 220 Woodstock Road, Woodstock (Click for map and directions)

Worship continues as a joint celebration, only the roles are reversed from July.  First Church provides the message for the day, the music ministry from East Woodstock  brings the gift of song and accompaniment, and deacons from both congregations plan, organize, and oversee worship.

Why the changes during the summer?

The members of our two congregations continually share how joyful and meaningful it is when we worship together.

We learn from one another. Our sense of shared ministry to the greater community is strengthened through our collective worship.  We are longtime friends and neighbors who have a shared sense of faith, spirituality, community, and call to nurture into being a more loving, hopeful, just, and humane humanity.

There are several practical reasons for worshipping together as well during the summer, including the following:

  • Continues a tradition that began more than 40 years ago.
  • Creates a fuller worship experience for congregants as so many are away during the summer months.
  • Gives the music ministry of each congregation a month off.
  • Provides time for the pastors of each congregation to take some time off, to focus on advanced planning, and/or to be enriched and renewed through worship in other communities.
