Children & Youth

At the First Congregational Church of Woodstock, Sunday School classes for children and youth begin on the second Sunday in September and end on the second Sunday in June.

Classes are held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings.FCCW church school 3.1.20

All children and youth begin worship in the sanctuary for approximately 10 to 15 minutes and then proceed to classrooms downstairs after a brief children’s time. Intergenerational worship services are held at various times throughout the year.  Our new ‘Pray Ground’ in the sanctuary has books, puzzles, and quiet toys for little ones to enjoy during worship.

Nursery

Children (and parents) are welcome to visit our ‘prayground’ in the sanctuary.  There are lots of quiet toys to enjoy while still being part of worship.  We also have a spacious, colorful and inviting infant/toddler/preschool room  located on the downstairs level of the church. The room is fully equipped for all infant/toddler and preschool needs, including a crib, changing table and bathroom.  A speaker is located in the nursery so you are able to hear the worship service if you wish to stay with your child.

Kindergarten through Eighth Grade

On Sunday mornings our children explore the same bible lesson that adults are hearing in worship. This exciting, dynamic approach to teaching the stories of the Old and New Testaments allows parents to engage their children after church about the materials they both heard for a deeper understanding for all ages.

Children learn in mixed-age setting. After hearing the story, a mix of activities are offered for children for a fun, yet educationally rich experience that focuses on using music, games, science, cooking, art and storytelling to teach lessons from the Bible.

Intergenerational Advent Event

The children and youth of our church experience various group events throughout the year including opportunities to sing during worship, participate in family craft/game/movie nights and act in a Christmas pageant. Our Sunday school year ends on Children’s Sunday, the second Sunday in June, when our children lead the worship service and celebrate with a family picnic and field day out on the Common.

Wider Church Opportunities for Youth

SLCC-newlogo-rightcol

Silver Lake is a place where young people experience nature, make new friends, and explore their faith. With more than 60 acres of wooded land on lakeside shores, Silver Lake offers many opportunities for young people to take risks and try new things with the support of an intentional Christian community.

Time and again we hear from our campers: “Silver Lake is where I can be the real me!” We invite you to take the plunge this summer and find your true self, new friends, and a closer connection to God.

We worship, learn, play, serve, and work together, respecting the right of private judgement. We seek to provide a safe environment of acceptance regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation, reflecting our unity in Christ and respecting the faith journeys of all of God’s children.
